Board Structure

Northern Peninsula Regional Service Board currently consist of ten elected  members, an elected Chair and Co-chair and a hired Coordinator.

The volunteer support of the above members is the absolute backbone of this organization. Northern Peninsula Regional Service Board salutes the efforts of these valued individuals.

As stated in the Regional Service Board Act:
Board membership

(1) The Board will consist of 7 members.  Where boundaries are expanded to include additional  subregions, the membership will expand to ensure proportionate representation from all subregions.

(2) Each subregion will elect 3 persons at a public meeting for recommended appointment to the Board.  These 3 persons will be elected from among councilors or community leaders who represent municipal authorities in the region and wish to be considered for appointment to the Board. This process will also apply for replacement of Board members.  No more than one elected person per municipal authority is permitted.  If no nomination is made by a municipal authority, the minister may select a member or members from among persons who reside within the boundaries of that municipal authority.

(3) Each elected member to the board with the exception of the chairperson shall serve a term of 2 years with the right to stand for re-election for a further term of 2 years and shall be ineligible for a further re-election until at least 2 years after the expiration of his or her last term as a member of the board.

(4) If any member is not in attendance for 4 consecutive meetings, he/she may be replaced on the board. This action will require a two-thirds majority vote.

(5) Public meetings will be called to replace members when necessary.

(6) All board members will require subsequent formal appointment by the Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs.

4. Chairperson and Vice-chairperson

(1) The Lieutenant-Governor in Council shall appoint a chairperson to the Board.

(2) The members of the Board shall elect a vice-chairperson at the Board’s first meeting.
